Tehran, Moscow move to strengthen economic cooperation
A member of parliament’s Energy Committee said the Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission presents a valuable opportunity to expand economic diplomacy and counter sanctions.
Mansour Shokrollahi, referring to the 19th session of the Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission, said the two countries have broad potential for cooperation across multiple sectors, including oil and energy.

He added that holding the latest session could help deepen bilateral ties in various fields, noting that economic and energy diplomacy hold special significance under current conditions. He expressed hope that more active engagement in these areas would enhance the country’s standing.

Shokrollahi said Iran and Russia are strategic partners and that expanding cooperation in the energy sector could prove productive and serve as a firm response to sanctions.

The 19th Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission opened Monday in Tehran. On Bahman 26-27 (February 16-17), 17 specialized working groups held separate meetings to exchange views on economic issues. The session concluded Wednesday, Bahman 29 (February 18), with the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the 19th round and four separate agreements between the two countries’ executive bodies.
