The Sarajeh Operational District in Qom Province has completed its seasonal gas storage operations and is preparing to begin withdrawal in mid-November to help maintain pressure in Iran’s national gas pipeline network during the winter months, an official said.
Hossein Mousavi, head of the Sarajeh Operational District at the Iranian Central Oil Fields Company, said the facility was preparing to resume gas production and would be ready to inject stored gas into the national pipeline network from mid-November.
Highlighting the importance of underground gas storage during the cold season, Mousavi said withdrawal operations would begin following a notification from the country’s Fuel Committee about declining gas pressure. The stored gas will be delivered to the fifth nationwide gas pipeline to help ensure a stable energy supply.
He added that, under the planned schedule, gas withdrawal from the Sarajeh storage reservoir would continue through March 6 (Esfand 15). Once winter ends and demand across the gas distribution network declines, reinjection operations will resume on April 4 (Farvardin 15).
Mousavi also emphasized Sarajeh’s strategic importance because of its proximity to Tehran, a major gas-consuming province. He said the facility, one of Iran’s first underground gas storage sites, plays a significant role in supporting the country’s gas supply during peak winter demand.
The report said the Sarajeh and Shourijeh-Khangiran underground storage facilities are the country’s two main gas storage hubs. They operate under the management of the Iranian Central Oil Fields Company and the East Oil and Gas Production Company, respectively.
