Iran finds new oil shale fields
As the result of preliminary explorations, three or four new oil shale horizons with signs of kerogen were discovered near Kerman and southern Semnan provinces.


Speaking to IRNA on Saturday, an informed source said there is confirmed reports of shale reserves in other regions including Iran’s Zagros Basin and near Aligudarz in the Lorestan province.


He introduced Garoo formation in Lorestan province as the biggest discovered shale reserve and Gachsaran as the one with significant capacity.

Iran is an oil-rich country and the aim of explorations is to find the estimate of its unconventional hydrocarbon reserves.
